Bringing a map to your chamber
What does it cost our chamber?
Nothing. The businesses on the map pay for production, printing and mailing.
How is our chamber's check calculated?
Your chamber gets $50 for every member in good standing at the start of the project who joins the map. You can also pass it back to your members as a discount.
When is the check paid?
After the map is printed and distributed.
Is there a contract?
Yes, a short two-page partnership agreement.
What if not enough businesses sign up?
Before we start, we look at past results from the last map in your community, or in similar communities, to make sure the project will be a success.
Will it compete with our other fundraisers?
No. We time the project with you so it doesn't overlap your other fundraising.
How long does it take?
About 12 weeks from kickoff to every mailbox in town.
Who visits our businesses?
Our MapToons team personally contacts just about every business in town on your behalf, most in person and some by phone, with the president's letter we draft together.
Getting on the map
How much does a map ad cost?
Map spots are $395 (Single), $595 (Double) and $795 (Triple). Premium spots, including the covers, start at $1,095. See the sizes.
What do I get?
Your ad drawn right onto the map, mailed to every home and business in your ZIP codes. Plus an 11×17" “Best of” window sign and laminated map, a countertop rack with 25 maps, a spot on our digital map, and a 25-word “Best of” directory listing.
Who designs my ad?
We do, at no extra charge. We gather your logo and details and design your ad, whether it’s your building, logo, van or plane banner. Premium advertisers can also send us a ready-made ad. You approve it before the map prints.
Isn’t direct mail dead?
Mailboxes are emptier than they’ve been in decades: the average household now gets about 620 pieces of mail a year, down from about 1,480 at the 2005 peak (USPS data via Brookings). So mail worth opening stands out, and a MapToon isn’t just an ad. It’s your town’s own “Best of” guide, made with your chamber, so people open it, pass it around and see it again in shop windows all over town. A digital ad is gone in a second; a MapToon can stay on a wall for years. And it’s online all year on AskLongIsland.com.
How many people will see it?
Each map is mailed to every home and business in its ZIP codes, usually 10,000 to 25,000 of them, and posted in up to 100+ shops around town.
How long does my ad last?
Until your town’s next edition, usually at least three years.
Do I need to be a chamber member?
No. If you’re not a member, your ad comes with a free trial chamber membership.
Can my competitors be on the map too?
Yes. The map is meant to reflect the real mix of businesses in town, so others in your line of business may be on it too.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes, for nonprofits and community organizations. Ask us when you reserve.
When is my town’s next map?
Search your town on Find Your Town, or ask us to tell you when its map opens.
What’s a free AskLongIsland.com listing?
Any Long Island business can claim a free listing. Upgrade to a full listing for $29/month or a sponsored spot for $49/month.
Got a map in the mail?
Why did I get a map in the mail?
Your chamber of commerce and the local businesses on it made it for your town. It’s free, and it goes to every home and business.
Can I get extra copies?
Yes. Pick one up at a shop on the map, or request printed maps.
Where can I see my town’s businesses online?
On AskLongIsland.com, where neighbors recommend their favorites.
My favorite business isn’t on the map.
Tell them! Businesses can join the next edition, and you can recommend them on AskLongIsland.com today.
Can I see older maps?
Find Your Town lists every map since 2003. Maps from 2025 on are live and interactive on AskLongIsland.com.
