It started with one map.
Brothers Mark and Doug Snider started MapToons in 2003, with a first map of Riverhead. The idea was simple: put a town’s local businesses on one fun, illustrated map, and mail it to every home in town.
More than 100 maps later, chambers keep inviting us back. Farmingdale is on its fourth edition. In 2025 we gave the maps a new look, starting with Long Beach, and we’ve partnered with local people to create maps in Highland Park, NJ, Deerfield Beach, FL, and Knightdale, NC.
Truly local, on purpose.
We put the independent shops, restaurants and services that make a town feel like home front and center, so neighbors shop local and find the best their town has to offer.
We work directly with just about every business on our maps, in person or by phone. That’s how a map ends up feeling like the town.
On AskLongIsland.com, neighbors recommend their favorites. It’s community-led, and everything happens locally.
Made on Long Island, by people who live here, since 2003.
The businesses that make a town.
Most of the businesses we work with have fewer than 10 employees. For many, a MapToon is the first time they’ve marketed themselves in a big, memorable way. We help them get their name out there and grow in the towns they love.
What we do today
More ways to get found and grow.
